Prospecting in Rithm helps you find new sales opportunities near a location, review each one, and either save it to your client list or discard it so it does not keep appearing. Saved prospects become contacts in Rithm with Type set to Prospect, so you can prioritize them, plan visits, and grow your territory without starting from a blank list.
Prospecting is a great tool when you’re starting in a new territory. Use Prospects nearby when you need to discover places you do not know yet.
Use the tabs below for step-by-step instructions on the web and on the iPhone or iPad app.
What is Prospecting?
On the web, Prospecting is Rithm’s tool for discovering businesses and professionals near you (or near an address you choose), using search categories your organization allows—such as doctors, clinics, or other terms your company has set up.
When you save a prospect, Rithm adds that place to your client list as a new contact. New prospects are typically created with:
- Type: Prospect
- Stage: Unaware (or your company’s equivalent early stage)
- Importance: 8 (a strong starting priority so they stand out for planning)
You can change Stage, Importance, notes, and other details later, just as you would for any other client.
Prospecting is different from:
- Target List — prioritizing people you already have
- Pipeline — moving existing contacts through sales stages
- Import — uploading a spreadsheet of contacts
Prospecting is specifically for finding new places and turning the good ones into Rithm clients.
There are two related experiences on the web:
- Prospects Nearby (recommended) — a dedicated list where you look up a category and location, then save or discard each result.
- Map prospecting (on some Clients map views) — category buttons and a search field on the map, so you can pick prospects from map pins.
If your organization has not enabled prospecting categories, or your account does not have Prospects Nearby permission, you may see a No access message or be unable to open the tool. In that case, ask your administrator for help.
Where to find it
Prospecting is not a top-level menu item by itself. You open it from Clients (or Accounts, if your company uses B2B naming) and from related sales screens.
Primary entry: Prospects Nearby
- Sign in to Rithm in your browser.
- Open Clients (or Accounts) from the main menu.
- Select Prospects or Prospects Nearby, depending on which Clients layout you see:
- On the newer Clients layout, look for a yellow Prospects button among the filter buttons.
- On the classic Clients layout, look for a Prospects Nearby button.
You can also start Prospecting from:
- Pipeline — yellow Prospects button
- Target List — yellow Prospects button
- An empty client list — links such as Pick prospects nearby when that option is available
All of these open the same Prospects Nearby experience.
Alternate entry: map prospecting (classic Clients map)
If you use the classic Clients map view:
- Go to Clients.
- Look for the PROSPECTS label on the map controls.
- Use a Show: button for a category (for example, Show: Doctors), or use the search field labeled Search for prospects.
Map category buttons on the classic map are aimed at desktop use. On a phone browser, Rithm generally steers you toward Prospects Nearby instead.
How to use Prospects Nearby
Step 1: Allow location (when prompted)
When you open Prospects Nearby, you may briefly see Checking location… with a message that your location helps Rithm reduce travel time, find nearby clients, find better prospects, and create better routes.
Allow location access if your browser asks. Location is used to search near you. If location cannot be determined, you can still type a place in the Near field (when it is shown) and run a lookup.
Step 2: Set Category and Near, then look up
On the Prospects nearby screen you will see a search bar with:
- Category — what kind of prospect to find (for example, doctors). This often defaults from your company or recent searches.
- Near — a city, state, ZIP, or address when a location string is available. Use this to search a different area than your current GPS location.
- Lookup — runs the search with your Category and Near values.
Change Category or Near as needed, then select Lookup.
Your company’s administrator controls which prospect types are allowed under company settings (Type of prospects accepted). Terms are usually comma-separated. If that setting is blank, prospecting may be turned off for the whole organization.
Step 3: Review the results list
When results are found, you will see a heading like I found these prospects for you… and a short tip:
Use the checkmark (✓) and X (✗) buttons to save prospects to your client list or discard them. Tap the prospect name for more details.
Each row typically shows:
- Action buttons (save / discard)
- Name
- City
- Zip
You can sort the main list by selecting the Name, City, or Zip column headers.
Step 4: Save or discard from the list
For each prospect:
- Select the checkmark button to save the prospect to your client list.
- Select the X button to discard the prospect so it will not keep showing up.
After you act, the row updates to show a status of Saved or Discarded. Brief confirmation messages such as Saved to clients or Prospect discarded may appear.
Saving creates a real contact in Clients. Discarding hides that Google place from future prospecting results for you.
Step 5: Open details before you decide
Select a prospect’s name to open the detail panel (a centered dialog on desktop, or a bottom sheet on smaller screens). Details may include:
- Address
- Phone (often as a tap-to-call link)
- Website
- Hours available
- Extra place information when available (for example business status or reviews)
- Type (typically Prospect)
- Stage
From the detail panel you can:
- Save to clients — add the prospect to your list
- Discard — hide it from future results
- Navigate — open directions in maps (when an address is available)
Close the panel when you are done reviewing.
Step 6: Review similar names (when shown)
Sometimes Rithm also shows a second section: These may already be in your client list…
These results look similar to names you already have. You can still save or discard them if they are different people or different locations. The tip on that section explains that you can still act on them, and that tapping the name opens more details. In the detail view, you may also see a note that a Similar name already in your client list was found.
If every nearby match looks like a duplicate, you may see a message that there are no additional prospects that differ from your client list, with an invitation to review the similar results below.
When nothing is found
If no matches appear, you may see a message such as: no prospects of that category were found nearby—try a new prospecting category or location. Update Category or Near, then select Lookup again.
Connection and permission messages
If the tool cannot load results or save/discard, you may see messages about connection problems, internet errors, or problems saving. Check your connection and try again.
If you see No access and a message that your organization does not give access to the Rithm prospecting tool, contact an administrator. Prospecting must be allowed for your company, and your user needs the appropriate Prospects Nearby permission.
How to use map prospecting (classic Clients map)
If your Clients screen still includes map prospecting controls:
- Go to Clients and view the map.
- Find the PROSPECTS section.
- Select a Show: category button (for example Show: Doctors), or search using Search for prospects.
- Prospect markers appear on the map.
- Select a marker to open place details in an info window and a detail card.
- Review fields such as Address, Phone, Website, Prices, User reviews, Business status, and Hours available when they are available.
- Choose Add prospect to save, or Discard to hide that place.
On some screens you may see a tip inviting you to select a prospecting category, choose a prospect from the map, or search for a custom category.
Custom categories you search for may be remembered among your recent prospect categories (commonly up to a few recent terms), subject to what your company allows.
Note: The newer Clients layout focuses on the yellow Prospects button that opens Prospects Nearby, rather than the older on-map Show: buttons.
What to do after you save prospects
Saved prospects appear in Clients like any other contact, with Type Prospect. From there you can:
- Open the contact and edit Stage, Importance, notes, hours, visit frequency, and more
- Prioritize them on Target List
- Move them through stages on Pipeline
- Include them when you run the Auto-Scheduler to plan visits
A practical loop for outside sales:
- Find nearby prospects.
- Save the ones worth visiting.
- Raise Importance for the best opportunities on Target List.
- Run Auto-Scheduler (or add meetings manually) to put them on your day.
If your schedule looks light, Rithm may also tip you to find more prospects and then Auto-Schedule—prospecting is meant to feed that planning cycle.
Tips for new salespeople
- Start with the category your company already uses most (often something like doctors). Broad, vague categories return noisier lists.
- Search near where you will actually be working that day or week, not only near home. Use Near to aim at a territory.
- Open the name and check phone, website, and hours before you save everything—quality beats volume.
- Discard places you will never call on so they stop cluttering future searches.
- After saving, set Importance and Stage so Target List and Auto-Scheduler know what matters.
- Prospecting finds new places; importing a spreadsheet is better when you already have a list from another system.
What is Prospecting?
On the Rithm iPhone and iPad app, Prospecting means finding new nearby opportunities and adding them as contacts with Type Prospect, then using those contacts in Targets and Auto-Scheduler.
Important difference from a fully native screen: finding and saving nearby prospects uses Rithm’s Prospects Nearby web tool, opened in a full-screen browser view from the app. After you close that view, the app refreshes your Clients list so new Prospects appear.
You can also create a Prospect manually inside the app by adding a client and setting Type to Prospect.
Prospecting is different from:
- Targets — ranking contacts you already have by Importance
- Auto-Scheduler — building a visit plan from contacts that already exist
- Clients map — viewing contacts on a map (not discovering new Google places)
Where to find it
Primary entry: Prospects nearby
- Open the Rithm app and sign in.
- Tap the Clients tab at the bottom (person-group icon).
- At the bottom of the Clients screen (when the search box is empty), tap the Prospects nearby button (person with plus badge icon).
That button sits next to Clients map. If you are typing in the Client name… search field, those bottom buttons are hidden until you clear the search.
Prospects nearby opens the prospecting tool in a full-screen Safari-style view. When you dismiss it, Rithm reloads your clients so newly saved Prospects show up in the list.
Related places (after prospects exist)
- Targets tab — prioritize Prospects (and Clients) by Importance
- Auto-Scheduler tab — optionally filter so schedules include Type Prospect
- Schedule tab — tips may suggest finding more Prospects nearby when the day is light
There is no separate “Prospecting” tab on the tab bar.
If you have no clients yet
You may see a message that you can import a spreadsheet, find prospects, or add sample clients in the Rithm Web App, and that you can also add individual clients with the (+) button on the Clients tab. Finding nearby prospects from the app still starts from Prospects nearby once you are on the Clients tab and signed in.
How to use Prospects nearby on iOS
Step 1: Open Prospects nearby
- Go to Clients.
- Make sure you are logged in (the button requires a successful login).
- Tap Prospects nearby.
- If iOS asks for location permission, allow it. Rithm uses location to reduce travel time, find nearby clients, find prospects, and create better routes.
Step 2: Use the Prospects Nearby tool (same flow as web)
Inside the full-screen view you will use the same Prospects Nearby experience as on the web:
- Optionally wait through Checking location… if it appears.
- Set Category (what to search for).
- Set Near when you want a specific city, ZIP, or address.
- Tap Lookup.
- Review I found these prospects for you…
- Use the checkmark button to save, or the X button to discard.
- Tap a prospect name for details (Address, Phone, Website, Hours available, Type, Stage, and more when available).
- From details, choose Save to clients, Discard, or Navigate.
You may also see a These may already be in your client list… section for similar names. You can still save or discard those if they are truly different people or locations.
Status labels Saved and Discarded appear after you act. Confirmation messages such as Saved to clients or Prospect discarded may appear.
Step 3: Return to the app
Close or dismiss the full-screen prospecting view when you are finished. The Clients list refreshes so new Prospects are available for editing, targeting, and scheduling.
If you cannot access the tool
If your organization has not enabled prospecting, you may see No access and a message that your organization does not give access to the Rithm prospecting tool—ask an administrator. The same company category rules and Prospects Nearby permissions that apply on the web apply here, because the iOS button opens that same tool.
How to add a Prospect manually in the app
If you already know the person or place:
- On Clients, tap (+) in the toolbar.
- Fill in the Add Client form (name, account/organization, address, phone, email, website, notes, hours, visit settings, and so on).
- Set Type to Prospect (Client and Prospect are always available; your company may also offer custom types).
- Set Stage (for example Unaware) and Importance (1–10).
- Save.
You can later open the contact from Clients or Targets, tap Edit, and change Type, Stage, Importance, or other fields.
When you open client details, you will see labels such as Stage:, Importance rank:, and Type: (for example Prospect), plus notes, hours, and actions such as Call, Directions, Check-in, and Show meetings.
How to prioritize Prospects (Targets)
Prospecting finds people; Targets helps you decide who matters most.
- Tap the Targets tab.
- Open the Target List, grouped by Importance (higher scores first).
- Expand an Importance group and select a contact to open details.
- Change Importance with the 1–10 control when priorities change.
- Use Call or Directions from the row menu when you are ready to act.
Both Prospects and Clients appear here. Raising Importance on a new Prospect makes it more likely to show up meaningfully in Auto-Scheduler filters that respect importance ranges.
How to schedule visits to Prospects
- Tap Auto-Scheduler.
- Review the importance range and any filters you need.
- To focus on Prospects, use a filter such as Type contains and keep Prospect selected (or use ALL if you want every type).
- Run optimization with Okay – make my day!
- Review the resulting plan on the Schedule tab.
If Schedule tips say the day is light, they may specifically recommend going to the Clients tab, adding more Prospects nearby, then running Auto-Scheduler—that is the intended mobile loop.
How web and mobile differ
| Topic | Web UI | Mobile UI (iOS) |
|---|---|---|
| Finding nearby prospects | Prospects Nearby page inside the browser app chrome | Same tool, opened full-screen from the Prospects nearby button |
| Map-based “Show: category” prospecting | Available on classic Clients map views | Not offered as a native map prospecting flow; use Prospects nearby |
| Pipeline shortcut to Prospects | Yellow Prospects button on Pipeline | No Pipeline tab; use Stage on the contact instead |
| Target List shortcut to Prospects | Yellow Prospects button on Target List | Native Targets tab for prioritizing; use Clients → Prospects nearby to find new ones |
| Creating a Prospect by hand | Add/edit client on web | Add Client (+) and set Type to Prospect |
| Import / sample clients | Available in the web app | Empty-state guidance points you to the Rithm Web App for spreadsheet import and samples |
| After saving | Contact appears in Clients immediately in the same session | Dismiss the prospecting view so the app can refresh Clients |
The save-or-discard experience (Category, Near, Lookup, checkmark/X, detail panel, similar-name section) is the same tool on both platforms. What changes is how you open it and what you do next with Targets and Auto-Scheduler in the native app.
Tips for new salespeople on mobile
- Use Prospects nearby when you arrive in a territory and want ideas for the afternoon.
- Allow location so results match where you actually are.
- Save carefully; discard places you will not visit so future lists stay clean.
- After you return to Clients, open each new Prospect and confirm Importance and Stage before you Auto-Schedule.
- When Schedule says the day is light, treat that as a cue to prospect first, then optimize.
- Use (+) for referrals and named leads you already have; use Prospects nearby when you need to discover places you do not know yet.
